Julia is a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist with over 15 years of experience across the full breadth of psychiatric practice. She is qualified as both a general and forensic psychiatrist, completing her FRANZCP Fellowship in 2021 and her Certificate of Advanced Training in Forensic Psychiatry in 2024.
After qualifying as a doctor in 2009 from the University of Edinburgh, Julia worked for two years as a house officer before making the move to Dunedin to begin her psychiatric registrar training. Over her career, she has worked across a wide range of settings, including acute and rehabilitation inpatient wards, community mental health, consultation liaison, alcohol and drug services, child and adolescent mental health, intellectual disability, and specialist forensic psychiatry.
Growing up in Zimbabwe before spending a decade in the UK, Julia has called New Zealand home since 2011. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family in the Canterbury countryside and finds joy in the creative calm of needlepoint and quilting.
